The Types of Personal Injury Cases We Cover
At our personal injury law firm, we handle a wide range of personal injury cases, such as:
- Car Accidents: We represent victims of car accidents caused by reckless driving, distracted driving, drunk driving, or defective vehicle parts. Our team fights to recover compensation for injuries, vehicle damage, medical expenses, and more.
- Truck Accidents: We have extensive experience handling complex truck accident claims. Whether the crash involved a semi-truck or commercial vehicle, we work to secure fair compensation for injuries, property loss, and long-term impacts.
- Motorcycle Accidents: These accidents can lead to serious or fatal injuries due to limited rider protection. We help victims recover compensation for medical treatment, rehabilitation, lost income, and pain and suffering.
- Wrongful Death: Losing a loved on due to someone else’s negligence is devastating. Our firm supports grieving families by pursuing wrongful death claims to seek justice and financial compensation for funeral costs, lost income, and emotional loss.
Colorado personal injury law: the rules that decide your claim
Deadlines
Most Colorado injury claims must be filed within two years of the injury (C.R.S. § 13-80-102). Claims arising from a motor vehicle — car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrian — get three years (C.R.S. § 13-80-101(1)(n)). Wrongful death claims have two years. These are filing deadlines, not call-a-lawyer deadlines; evidence disappears far sooner.
Government vehicles and property
If a City of Denver, RTD, or other government vehicle or property was involved, you must deliver written notice within 182 days under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (C.R.S. § 24-10-109) or lose the claim entirely, and recovery is capped — $505,000 per person for injuries occurring on or after January 1, 2026. (You will see “180 days” repeated online; the statute says 182.)
Shared fault
Colorado follows modified comparative negligence (C.R.S. § 13-21-111). Your recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault, and barred if you were 50% or more at fault. Insurers push fault onto injured people for exactly this reason.
Caps
For cases filed on or after January 1, 2025, Colorado capped non-economic damages (pain, suffering, inconvenience) at $1.5 million in most injury cases and $2.125 million in wrongful death cases (HB24-1472). Economic damages — medical bills, lost income, future care — are not capped.
What a Local Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

- Evidence Collection: We build a strong case by gathering essential evidence like medical records, accident reports, police documentation, witness statements, and expert testimony to support your injury claim.
- Insurance Negotiations: Our accident attorney team handles all communications with insurance companies, negotiating aggressively to secure a fair settlement that reflects your medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future care needs.

Two years for most injuries; three years for motor vehicle accidents; 182 days to give written notice if a government entity is involved.
Yes, if you were less than 50% at fault. Your recovery is reduced by your share.
It depends on your medical costs, lost income, the permanence of the injury, and the insurance available. We will not quote a number before reviewing the file; anyone who does is guessing.
Nothing up front. The consultation is free and the fee is a percentage of the recovery, only if we win.

The Bride
Mary was injured when a car slammed into her at a red light. While she was getting treatment the insurance company used their usual trick of trying to get her to sign off on their “Low Ball” offer. She called 303-LAW-4040 instead. Dan went to work and ultimately got Mary 52 TIMES the original lowball offer.
Mary was so happy with how Dan and Kim handled her claim, she called back and invited them to her wedding. Dan was honoured to attend and brought a big pan of brisket of course!
– Turned Down by the TV Lawyers
David was in an accident that wasn’t his fault. His case was a little complicated but not enough of a “Slam Dunk” for the TV lawyers. He was turned down, one by one, by each of the lawyers that go on television and claim they will “fight for you.”
Finally, he heard Dan Jacobs’ voice on the radio and decided to send Dan a note. A short 45 days later, we secured $58,000 for David on a claim that not a single “TV Lawyer” would touch!
– Guitar Man
Anselmo was hurt and out of money after being unable to work due to an accident. He found Dans’ website as an answer to the Best Personal Injury Lawyer Near Me in Google. Using his medical payments coverage we were able to get some money in his pocket right away to help him get back on his feet while our injury law firm, Jacobs Law PLLC worked on his larger claim.
At the end of the day, we got Anselmo over $60,000, allowing him to pick up back up and passion he had let go a long time ago – playing a brand new guitar.
